Data Scientist

A person who is better at statistics than any software engineer and better at software engineering than any statistician.

About

My name is Chris LeBailly. I am a life long learner and problem solver.

I began this journey as a student. At Grinnell College I double majored in mathematics and music, and was close to a third major in physics. After graduation I worked for two years in the Math Study Center at Evanston Township High School. I worked with students of varying abilities in mathematics, where I was able to explain the simple ideas of basic algebra to the more advanced underpinnings of Calculus. While I left this job to pursue graduate studies I have retained the ability to communicate scientific ideas to people who don't have a science background. After I finished my master in pure math, I decided to transition to data science. Part of my transition included studying bioinformatics (which helped sharpen my skill and confirm I was on the right path). I have now been working in data science since September 2014.

Outside of work I have many hobbies. I love all the outdoors in the San Francisco bay has to offer. I enjoy swimming, tennis, hiking, and beach volleyball. Inside I love exploring my creative side through improv classes and by playing piano. I have also been fascinated with aviation since childhood, and got my private pilot certificate in the summer of 2018. The picture above was taken on a trip with a friend from Chicago to Mackinac Island in a Cessna 172.

I want to make a positive difference in the world and enjoy working in a field which not only allows, but requires, me to continue to learn and grow.
